The Victorian Liberals and Nationals economic team are continuing to consult widely with the community to develop a more efficient and fairer tax system for all Victorians, hosting public hearings at State Parliament today.
The panel heard directly about the impact of the Victorian Labor Government’s high-taxing environment which is crushing Victorian businesses, forcing many to permanently close their doors and pushing others to invest interstate.
Witnesses at the hearings made it clear that the Victorian Government should refrain from introducing any new or increased taxes and instead investigate options to provide tax relief to businesses, particularly small businesses and those just starting up.
Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, said: “Reforming Victoria’s tax system is key to growing our economy and easing cost-of-living pressures for households and families across the state.
“Under Labor, Victoria’s tax system is making life harder for people, with 53 new or increased taxes since Labor came to government in 2014.
“What we heard from the Victorian business community today is that Victoria needs to shift gears. We won’t attract investment and turnaround flatlining productivity by slapping industry with more new taxes. To incentivise commerce led growth, our businesses need certainty and stability.”
“The Victorian Liberals and Nationals will continue to work with the community to develop a fairer, more efficient tax system that encourages productivity, investment and economic growth.
”Shadow Minister for Finance, Jess Wilson, said: “It’s important for us to hear firsthand the impact of Labor’s taxes on individuals, organisations and businesses as we undertake a wholesale review of Victoria’s tax system.
“We thank all the organisations for their input and involvement in today’s public hearings and look forward to continuing this important discussion with Victorians and businesses across the state.
“Evidence collected today will help us provide the taxation alternative that Victorians need and deserve.”
