Assessment of RPL Application for the PIPA Accreditation Program

What is Advanced Standing?

Advanced Standing is recognition of successful completion of prior study and/or work experience that relates directly to the PIPA Accreditation Program.

The PIPA Accreditation Program has been developed by PIPA as an industry benchmark of knowledge and skills for individual investors and professionals in industries involved with property investment.

Applications for recognised prior learning (RPL) are assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the individual’s previous education and industry experience.

How are applications assessed?

Applications for standard and non-standard exemptions are assessed by the PIPA RPL Program Manager and the PIPA Advanced Standing Committee, comprising senior industry practitioners.

What criteria is used to assess applications?

The Advanced Standing Committee bases its assessments on the following criteria:

Module 1 – An Introduction to Property Investing – RPL may be granted based on industry experience in the real estate/property investment industry.

Module 2 – Legislation and Regulation of Property – RPL may be granted based on evidence of a Real Estate Qualification or industry experience in the real estate/property investment industry.

Module 3 – Property and the Broader Economy – RPL may be granted based on a Finance Broking qualification or Financial Planning qualification AND evidence of being involved in real estate/property investment industry.

Module 4 – Property as an Investment – RPL may be granted based on a Financial Planning qualification AND evidence of being involved in property investment.

Module 5 – The Purchase Process and Financing – RPL may be granted based on holding both a Real Estate qualification and experience in that industry and a Finance Broking qualification and experience in that industry.

Module 6 – Property Advice and the Advice Model – RPL is not granted based on qualification or industry experience. It is only granted where someone can demonstrate that they have prepared a statement of property investment advice tailored to a person’s personal circumstances. This includes relevant specific property due diligence/advice or criteria, and an overview of the person’s property requirements, including yield and cashflow metrics and other relevant property plan details.
